Crouched Head
is Joshua Zubot and he was raised on a farm in Saskatchewan.
Josh was surrounded by bird sounds, his mothers art work, and a
brother and father, who are both musicians. As a teenager he studied classical
music and played in a punk band. After touring China, Europe and North
America with a popular seven piece violin ensemble, he has burried himself
into the world of electronic and improvised music. His debut cd is an
entangled mesh of intimate beats, tight attractive arrangements, horn
melodies (played by his father), electro-acoustics and free jazz influences.
These days Crouched Head bides his time
in Montreal. Recently, he has done collaborative gigs in Calgary with
Venus and Fergus, Masacote Diego Medina, Chad VanGaalen and The Bell Orchestre.
In Montreal he has performed with Lori Freedman, Phillipe Lauzier, Joel
Prenovault, Michael Blake and many others. In 2006, Josh received his
bachelor's degree in electro-acoustics from Concordia (Montreal) where
he was involved in a special grant program working under acclaimed composer
Tim Brady. Crouched Head has writing credit on the Juno winning Zubot
and Dawson album. With help from his brother Jesse Zubot (on the production
side), he has managed to create an exciting and original piece of work.
